Tags
Tags are flexible labels for monitors. Use folders and groups for hierarchy, then use tags for cross-cutting attributes such as environment, team, criticality, customer, region, or technology.
Where Tags Are Used
- Filtering monitors in the monitor list.
- Grouping related monitors across folders and groups.
- Associating maintenance windows with every monitor that has a tag.
- Associating status pages with every monitor that has a tag.
Adding Tags
Tags can be added when creating or editing a monitor. The Tags panel lets you select existing tags or add new ones depending on your permissions.
Tag Strategy
| Strategy | Examples |
|---|---|
| Environment | production, staging, development |
| Team | payments, platform, growth |
| Criticality | critical, customer-facing, internal |
| Technology | api, database, worker, browser-flow |
Best Practices
- Keep tag names short, lowercase, and consistent.
- Avoid duplicating folder or group names unless the tag is used across folders.
- Use tags for broad maintenance and status page associations.
- Review tags periodically so stale labels do not drive accidental associations.
